1849
William Farndale was born in 1849 (census)
and was probably the son of John and Elizabeth (nee Frankland) Farndale (FAR00265), though his attestation
papers suggest he was born in Kirkleatham.
1851
Census 1851 - St Ann’s, Snaith, Whitby:
John Farndale, head; married; age 33; sailor; born
Goathland (c 1818).
Elizabeth Farndale, wife; married; age 32; b Whitby (c 1819).
Elizabeth Farndale, daughter; unmarried; age 10;
born Whitby (c 1841) (FAR00350A).
Also:
John Frankland Farndale, aged 5, born 1846
William Farndale,
son; age 2, born 1849
William Hind, father-in-law; age 68; widower;
sailor from Prussia (1783).
1879 to 1881
He joined the Royal Marines, assuming this is his attestation
papers (The National Archives, ADM 157/641/804),
although these papers suggest he was born at Kirkleatham.
With no next of kin, he was later admitted to Clifton Hospital,
for mentally ill patients, transferred from Kent County Asylum, on 22 December
1879 from which he was discharged on 14 January 1881.
