is no super sleuth, either amateur or professional, engaged in solving the
mystery of a corpse found near a lonely Yorkshire village, and the reader,
copiously provided with clues, may test his own intelligence by comparison with
that of the quite ordinary engaged couple who ultimately arrive at a solution –
a solution, one may add, both logical and legitimate.
