1745

Robert Burnett, the son of Robert Burnett and James (nee Simson) Burnett (BUR00016), was baptised on 20 March 1745 at Bourtie, Aberdeenshire (Scotland Births and Baptisms).

1770

It has been interpreted that Robert Burnett married Anne Lunan in 1770. This needs further work.

1807 to 1815

There was a Captain Robert Burnett who served in the First Battalion of the 40th Regiment of Foot during the Peninsular War. It seems unlikely this was him.

There was a Private Robert Burnett who served in Captain Benjamin Lutyen’s Troop of 11th Regiment of Light Dragoons at the Battle of Waterloo. Whilst it is tempting to interpret this as our Robert Burnett, he would have been 70 years old by then if we have identified him with his correct baptism date, so it is difficult to imagine him charging into Napoleon’s defensive lines. There is a suggestion that Robert Burnett died in the Ardennes in France in 1815, which would suggest he died at Waterloo. This is very uncertain.
