Wisbech, Cambridgeshire
1863
Fanny
Amelia Rose Farndale, daughter of John Christopher and
Jane Barnett (nee Telford) Farndale (FAR00308),
was born in Wisbech District on 25 September 1864 (Death record Find a grave index). Fanny
Amelia Rose Farndale’s birth was apparently registered in Wisbech,
Cambridgeshire in the fourth quarter of 1863 which doesn’t quite reconcile with
the date of birth recorded at death (GRO Vol 3b page
605).

Her father, a sea captain and master mariner, was lost
at sea on the steamer The Norfolk in the Bay of Biscay on 22 January
1868. Rose was five years old.
1877
Her mother, Jane, married a barrister, S B Ives, a
barrister, in New York, USA in 1877. Rose was fourteen years old.
Rose seems to have emigrated to join her. The Boston Globe, 22 Apr 1878, Mon · Page 4 : ARRIVAL OF THE BATAVIA. The Cunard steamship Batavia, Captain

She
seems to have returned to UK and then sailed back again with the rest of her
family in 1879.
