There was a John Farndale, who was
discharged from the Grenadier Guards on 25 July 1872. He received £10
compensation. He served for 3 years and 323 days. (Chelsea Pensioners Discharge
Documents). I think this was most
likely to have been this John Farndale of Clerkenwell London.

Clerkenwell, London, son of William Farndale, market gardener, married Emily Eliza
Greenwood of
full age, spinster of 36, John Street, Cambridge Road, Hackney, daughter of
Robert Greenwood, collector, at Christ Church in the Parish of Hackney, County
of Middlesex, on 15 December 1875 (Hackney
PR, Marriage Certificate). Say John was 24 at his marriage
then he was born in or about 1851.
Emily
Greenwood was the daughter of Robert Greenwood (1817 to 1878) and Sarah (nee
Palmer) Greenwood (1817 to 1893), born in 1851 and baptised at Mortlake on 30
November 1851 (Mortlake PR). In 1871 she had been living with her family,
including two brothers John and Robert Greenwood at Mortlake, Bethnal Green.

was born in 1876 and died in 1877. Emily Ann Farndale’s birth was registered in
Bethnal Green District in the fourth quarter of 1876 (GRO
Vol 1c page 240).
