1658
George Farndale, the son of George and Meriall (nee Younge) Farndale (FAR00077) was born in or about
1658.
1678
George and Merill Farndale are mentioned in the Will of George Young
of Great Ayton. It is a very long document but an extract is:
‘……..And to my cozen Michaell Young some twelve
pence; Item, I give to my cozen Meriall ffarndell tenn shillings and to Meriall and
Alice, her daughters, tenn shillings a peece. Item, I give to my servant John Kirton and George
ffarndell now prentice with James Peacocke, all that parte
of the ship James Peacocke goes Master in after my wife’s decease………’ (this
will was proved on 18 February 1678/9).
(York Wills, The
Parish Register of Great Ayton (1600-1812) transcribed, edited and indexed
by Walter J Kaye MA, FSA, The Yorkshire Parish Register Society)

So by 1678, at
the age of say 20, he was an apprentice presumably to a master shipbuilder,
James Peacock.
There is a
suggestion in other research that he might have died in 1678. His father George
died on 19 January 1678, and this may be an error. I have not found record of
George the Younger’s death.
1681
On 31 October 1681, the Administration of George
Farndale, late of Stockton on Tees who died intestate was granted to his widow Merilia Farndale.
