was born in Chichester on 15 October 1924 (1939 Register, Monumental Record). Her birth was
registered in Chichester District in the fourth quarter of 1924 (GRO Vol 2B Page 514).

Observer, 17 April 1935: At the recent “school”
examinations of the Royal Schools of Music held in Chichester, the following
pupils of Miss Sylvia M Barker were successful: Primary, Noel J Carter and Irene
Farndale; Elementary, Joan Farndale; and Grammar of Music, Grade I, Daphne
P Hayward.

Observer, 1 May 1935: Miss Dorothy Irene Groundwell...
and Mr Edward Victor Coombs... were the contracting parties in a very pretty
wedding ceremony at Portfield church on Easter Monday.. She was attended by 5
bridesmaids... who wore ankle length dresses pale mauve satin, with ruched
ribbon to match and white satin shoes.... The three younger attendants, …and the
Misses Joan and Irene Farndale, nieces at the bridegroom, were attired in
the same style with pale pink ankle length dresses. All carried bouquets of
pink tulips... Mr G Farndale, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, acted as best
man...
