Mary Catherine Hall,
daughter of Colonel Arthur and Mira (nee Stubbs) Hall (HAL00102), was born in 1894 and baptised
on 1 July 1894. Her birth was registered in Newcastle under Lyme in the third
quarter of 1894 (GRO Staffordshire Vol 6B Page 61).

married Edgar Stanley Banfield on 6 June 1922 at Tittensor, Stoke on Trent. Banfield-Hall,
June 6, at St Luke’s, Tittensor, by the Rev Prebendary H V Stuart, Edgar
Stanley, son of Mr and Mrs J T Banfield, of Bellair, Natal, to Mary Catherine,
elder daughter of Colonel and Mrs Hall, of Parkfields,
Tittensor (Staffordshire Advertiser, 10
June 1922).
Edgar Stanley Banfield was
born in or about 1884 in Pietermaritzburg, Natal.

Edgar Stanley Banfield, a
clergyman, of Parkfields, Tittensor, Stoke, returned
from Cape Town to Southampton on the Balmoral Castle, arriving on 26
June 1933 (incoming passenger lists).

Edgar Stanley Banfield, a minister
of religion, of 18 Granville Terrace, Stone, Staffordshire, returned from Natal
to Southampton on the Carnarvon Castle, arriving on 27 May 1935 (incoming passenger lists). Travelling with him
were John Edgar Banfield, 12 and Catherine May Banfield, 11.
Heath Hayes Priest.
Shropshire Vicarage for Rev E S Banfield. After having been priest in charge of
St John’s church, Heath Hayes, since June last, believed to be the shortest
term of office on record, the Rev Edgar Stanley Banfield is to be instituted
vicar of Dawley Magna, Shropshire, on January 15 by the Bishop of Lichfield (Dr
J H Kempthorne). Previous to taking up his duties at
Heath Hayes, Mr Banfield had been for six and a half years military chaplain to
the defence forces of the Union of South Africa. He was born in Natal, served
with the South African Brigade during the Great War as a stretcher bearer, and
in 1917 joined the RAF as a pilot. A years after the Armistice he entered
Lichfield Thoellogical College, and in 1921 he was ordained priest by the
Bishop of Lichfield. Mr Banfield was on the staff at Stoke on Trent under
Prebendary H V Stuart, the late Dean of Carlisle who was for some years vicar
of Cannock, and whilst there was priest in charge of St Paul’s church, Mount
Pleasant. Subsequently he went to Guernsey and eventually returned to South
Africa. (Cannock Advertiser, 21 December
1935).

Edgar S Banfield died at
Wellington, Shropshire in the third quarter of 1958, aged 74 (GRO Volume 9A page 193). Rev Edgar Stanley
Banfield, Inglewood, Church Street, Shifnal, formerly vicar of St Giles,
Shrewsbury, and rural dean of Shifnal, who died on July 7 last, left £4,109
gross; £3,026 net value (Wellington Journal, 27 September
1958).
1970
Mary Banfield died on 6
