MILL HILL. TWO SISTERS MARRIED. UNUSUAL
WEDDING TAKES PLACE AT MILL HILL.
A unique wedding took place at St
Michael's church, Mill Hill, on Saturday when two sisters were married at once.
They were Miss Maud Una Foley and Miss
Jane Ella Foley, daughters of Mrs J E Foley, of 22 Deans Way, Edgware. The
former was married to Mr Philip Pearson, son of the late Mr and Mrs Pearson, of
“Royston”, Pickering Street, Loose, Maidstone, and the latter to Mr Arthur Edwin
Barnes Farndale, son of Mr. A Farndale and the late Mrs Farndale, of Doncaster.
The brides were both given away by their
brother, Mr E Foley, and were attired in oyster satin dresses, with veils and
wreaths trimmed with orange blossom, and carried bouquets of white
chrysanthemums and pink roses.
They were attended by Miss Nora M Foley,
sister, who wore a dress of powder blue silk, with quinoline hat to match. She
also carried a bouquet of white chrysanthemums and pink roses. A brother of Mr.
A E B farndale officiated as best man to both bridegrooms.
A reception was afterwards held at 22,
Deans Way, and later Mr and Mrs P Pearson left for Brighton and Mr and Mrs a
E B Farndale for Scarborough, where the honeymoons are being spent.
Both couples received a
large number of presents.

October 1938: LIGHTWATER.
ALLEGED FALSE PRETENCES. COURT STORY OF CAR TRANSACTION. *, Curly Hill Road, Lightwater, was committed for trial by the Woking
magistrates on Saturday on a charge of obtaining by false pretences on April
17th an Austin car, with intent to cheat and defraud. Mr. Hunt prosecuted and
Mr. J Barker defended. Mr. Hunt said in September 1937 * bought a standard car
on the hire purchase system....... Evidence in support of Mr Hunt's
statement was given by Arthur E Farndale, collecting manager for Transport Acceptances
Limited, Lawrence Conway West, and Lawrence W Tamplin, a Twickenham
motor agent….
ROOTES DISTRIBUTORS
LIMITED, Company Number 193018 by 1926 had become ROOTES LIMITED, Motor Car
Dealers and was renamed subsequently Transport Acceptances Limited. Rootes
Limited had a long connection with General Motors: their Maidstone and Dorking
branches were agents for Delco-Remy & Hyatt and AC. Rootes Distibutors Limited were by 1923 (according to an advert)
Distributors and Service Engineers for Oakland and Chevrolet for London and
South Eastern Counties and Buick Kent and Sussex Distributors [from Maidstone
and Dorking] and London and East Surrey Dealers., based at 7 8 & 9 Long
Acre, London W.C.2. However, they had apparently been so by 1921. The Rootes Group was acquired by Chrysler in 1965, their cars
and commercials having been sold through the Chrysler sales organisation in the
U.S. and Canada.

Arthur E B Farndale, died age 50 at
Harrow District in the second quarter of 1952. (Much information

1953
Ella Jane Farndale attended her mother’s
funeral the year after Arthur had died:
Harrow Observer and Gazette, 2 April 1953: MRS
J A M FOLEY. The mother of the Hatch End postmistress, Mrs Jane Alice Maud
Foley, of Post Office House, Hatch End, died on March 19 at the age of 83. A
former school teacher whose chief interests were
reading, nature study, and the Church, Mrs Foley had lived in Hatch End since
1938 and prior to that had been at Edgware for a few years. For the past 14
years Mrs Foley had been bedridden. The Rev C C Witts
officiated at a service at St Anselm's, Hatch End, prior to internment at
Pinner new cemetery. Mourners present: Mr J E Foley, son; Miss N Foley, Mrs C
Pearson, and Mrs E Farndale, daughters; and Mr P Pearson, son-in-law.
