1800

Mary Napier was born in 1800 and baptised on 7 November 1800, the daughter of John and Catherine (nee Mitchell) Napier (death record).

She was later a Clothes Mangler (census).

Mary Napier's brother John's family became an enterprising and entrepreneurial merchant Fishcurer.  Her brothers established themselves eventually in Peterhead after apprentice days in Monifieth. One of John's sons was called Edward Napier - after whom his young cousin Ned (as known in The Burnett-Eaton household in Fraserburgh) aka Sir Napier Burnett was named.  This family ( apart from the small farmers and crofting-&-subsistence families working in the hinterland ) began to explore and drift into the Towns - into the hustle-&-bustle - to improve livelihood/s generally and specifically.

They came under the influence of not only the all-encompassing Presbyterian Kirk rules and discipline dispensed and subscribed to following sweeping schism arrangements - but also that which enjoyed and shared with  "her own" children & grandchildren, including Ann Simpson ensured the benefit of a second-to-none school literacy, numeracy, attention to detail and the encouragingly good work ethic approach - and for the "in-town" cousins too - et alia. (Gerrard Burnett)
