William Alexander Burnett, the son of William
Alex and Jean Rae (nee Watt) Burnett (), was born on 19 November 1920 in
Strichen, Aberdeenshire.
1943
William Alexander Burnett married Eileen Norma
(“Norma”) Craddock of 19 Calverley Road, Tunbridge Wells in 1943 in Tunbridge
Wells.
His parents lived at Greenhill Place,
Edinburgh.
Norma Burnett was born in 1943 and William
Burnett may have been her twin.
1944
On 28 June 1944, 90 RAF Squadron's Avro
Lancaster III (NE145) aircraft, with an aircrew of seven, took off for a night
operation over Blennais, France to attack its flying
bomb factory. Returning to base following the operation, the Lancaster was shot
down by a German intruder, causing it to crash near Iklingham
and taking the lives of the whole crew.
