On 20 December 1889 at age 31, my Great Grandfather William Burnett 1860-1925's older brother John Burnett of Fraserburgh and The Orkney isles drowned off Bahia Blanca in a freak boating accident sometime after he and wife Jessie and son Oliver Davidson Burnett 1887-1919 had all emigrated to Argentina.  Great Granduncle John is simply memorialised on the Kirkton Burnett Family Headstone along with his parents and the two oldest brothers, namely,  William 1853-1860 named after his maternal grandfather;  and James 1856-1918 (Gerrard Burnett).

                                                                                                  (Fraserburgh Advertiser, 24 January 1890, page 5)

Widowhood for half-orphaned Oliver's Mum Jessie was followed up shortly by her marrying secondly, Alexander Murdoch from Fraserburgh.  This union produced three daughters who remained in touch with half-sibling Oliver, the latter having come to live at the house of my Great Grandparents in Fraserburgh, enjoying the company of this household (Gerrard Burnett).

Also interred in Kirkton's Family Lair is another cousin of my Grandfather, William Alex Burnett, namely young George Burnett Stephen, 1885-1888 - he being named after his Uncle George Burnett, the druggist who found his calling in theology at Glasgow - eventually coming under the influence of  his father-in-law, Revd. Robert Howie.    Young George who had contracted tuberculous meningitis and died within a few days still has to have his name recorded on the said headstone. Very sad - but not forgotten either.   His sister Edith Alice Humphreys née Stephen with her Mum and Kirsten aka Christina are all interred in California. After recognised service in WWI, Edith's son John McDonald emigrated too - and his descendants from his Mexican wife's Hispanic side are all living in various parts of ol' Mejico too.  Some of them came to visit Edinburgh and Aberdeenshire in  2023 (Gerrard Burnett).
