John Hough Baker was the son of
William and Ann (nee Hough) Baker (BAK00102). He was baptised at Audlem on 6 March 1822
(Audlem Parish Records).

It puzzles me that this portrait
appears to show an older man than twenty, which was the age when he died.
1842
He died unmarried and without
issue at the age of 20 in 1842 where the death was registered at Nantwich (General Register Office Volume
19, page 145) and was buried at Audlem
on 10 January 1842 (Bakers
of Highfields, Landed Families website, Audlem Parish Records, GRO Volume
19 page 145).


This is the clear record of the
death of John Hough Baker of Highfields in 1842.
Yet Burke’s suggests that he went
on to become Master of Foxhounds for Wheatland 1843, for Shropshire 1849, for Albrighton
and Wheatland 1854, and for North Warwickshire 1856 to 1862. The portrait suggests
he went on to become a much older man.
Could this be evidence of John
Baker in 1856:
