Joan L Farndale, daughter of George James and Lavinia F (nee Coombes) Farndale (FAR00653) was born in Chichester on 22 October 1922 (1939 Register). Her birth was registered in Chichester District in the fourth quarter of 1922.

George Farndale gave away Constance Burls at her wedding in 1925, and his daughter Joan Farndale was a little bridesmaid aged 2:

 

Chichester Observer, 18 February 1925: A pretty wedding was solemnised at the Church of Saint Peter the Great on Saturday. The Rev P R B Brown officiated. The bride was Miss Constance May Burls, and the bridegroom Mr Albert Henry Coombes. The bride was attended by two bridesmaids, Miss J Farndale and Miss E Hoad, and was given away by Mr G J Farndale. The best man was Mr W Hoad. The happy couple received numerous presents.

 

1933

Chichester Observer 19 April 1933: Joan Farndale, pupil of Miss Manners, was successful in passing the preliminary examination of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

1935

Chichester Observer, 17 April 1935: At the recent “school” examinations of the Royal Schools of Music held in Chichester, the following pupils of Miss Sylvia M Barker were successful: Primary, Noel J Carter and Irene Farndale; Elementary, Joan Farndale; and Grammar of Music, Grade I, Daphne P Hayward.

Chichester Observer, 1 May 1935: Miss Dorothy Irene Groundwell... and Mr Edward Victor Coombs... were the contracting parties in a very pretty wedding ceremony at Portfield church on Easter Monday.. She was attended by 5 bridesmaids... who wore ankle length dresses pale mauve satin, with ruched ribbon to match and white satin shoes.... The three younger attendants, …and the Misses Joan and Irene Farndale, nieces at the bridegroom, were attired in the same style with pale pink ankle length dresses. All carried bouquets of pink tulips... Mr G Farndale, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, acted as best man...
