The Story of the New Zealand 2 Line

Wilf Farndale was born in Stockton and after he married and had a family of five at Filton, near Bristol, the family emigrated to Gisborne on the east coast of North Island (“the Eastern Cape”), New Zealand, where they settled.

The Norwich Line can trace back from William to the Ampleforth 1 Line as follows:

At the present time I have been unable to trace this line back to older lines of Farndales. With more research I may yet find the link to the direct Farndale history back to 1512. It seems likely that Elias will be linked to Farndales in other lines, and I am sure that all those using the Farndale name, are linked to the early family lines, such as the Kirkleatham Skelton Line, the Liverton 2 Line, the early part of the Kilton 1 Line, and the Kilton 2 Line. I am also sure that all Farndales will share in the medieval ancestry which is described in Volume 1 of the Farndale Directory.

Chronology of the New Zealand 2 Line

1911	Wilfred Farndale, the son of Tom and Dora Farndale, was born in Stockton.
1939	Wilfred Farndale married Doris Evelyn Howard in Co Durham, probably at Stockton.
25 April 1940	Wilfred John Howard Farndale (“Howard”), son of Wilfred and Doris Farndale, was born in Sodbury, northeast of Bristol.
1942	Keith Alan (“Alan”) Farndale, son of Wilfred and Doris Farndale, was born in Sodbury, northeast of Bristol.
1947	Neil Hamilton Farndale, son of Wilfred and Doris Farndale, was born in Sodbury, northeast of Bristol. Neil lived in Gisborne in the 1980s.
1950	Nigel John Farndale, son of Wilfred and Doris Farndale, was born in Sodbury, northeast of Bristol.
1952	Melanie Frances Farndale, daughter of Wilfred and Doris Farndale, was born in Sodbury, northeast of Bristol.
1959	At some stage they emigrated to New Zealand, perhaps not altogether. Howard Farndale travelled to New Zealand on 11 September 1959 and on 5 October 1964. Melanie travelled with her family to Australia and then to Auckland in 1964.
11 July 1963	Howard Farndale married Shirley Parsons in Shirley. They had a son and daughter, Michael and Melanie.
5 October 1966	Keith Farndale married Dawn Fenton in Gisborne.
1967	Wilf Farndale was Chairman of the local football association in Gisbourne, New Zealand.
1969	Howard was a fitter in Gisborne.
1970	Melanie Farndale was training as a nurse in Gisborne.
2 December 1970	Petty Officer (Keith) Alan Farndale served on HMNZS Endeavour.
1974	Wilf Farndale, Ray Gorringe and Nigel Farndale.
9 April 1977	Nigel Farndale died aged 26 and was buried at Taruheru Cemetery, Gisborne, New Zealand.
13 November 1985	Wilfred Farndale Senior died and was buried at Taruheru Cemetery, Gisborne, New Zealand.
13 January 2012	Melanie Farndale died in Gisborne.
3 April 2022	Howard Farndale in New Zealand.
