The Story of the Holderness Line

William Farndale was born in 1914 and by 1939 he was working as a garage fitter and tractor driver in Holderness. He was a seargeant in the Withensea Patrol during the Second World War. William Derrick Farndale was born at Mobberley, Cheshire. His parents were Joseph and Minnie Farndale who had moved from York to Cheshire, Lancashire and South Manchester before William was born.

 

By 1921

The family had moved to Tynemouth, Newcastle upon Tyne.

 

By 1939

William was a motor fitter, working in a garage in Holderness.

 

1942

William married Lily Peck in Holderness.

 

1942 to 1944

William was a tractor driver and a member Withensea Patrol on the East Yorkshire Coast.

 

1943

Ian Farndale was born in Holderness.

 

1945

Peter Farndale was born in Holderness.
