Chronology of the Great Ayton 3 Line

 

The First and second generation

 

25 October 1795

Henry Farndale was born at Kilton, a twin, son of Samuel and Elizabeth Farndale.

 

20 March 1819

Henry Farndale married Elizabeth Appleton at Great Ayton.

 

31 December 1820

 

Ann Farndale was baptised in Nunthorpe, now southern Middlesbrough. She married Mark Charlton in 1846 and they had four children.

29 June 1823

William Appleton Farndale was baptised in Nunthorpe. He married Jane Campbell in Hilton, south of Middlesbrough in 1846. They had four children. William died in 1908.  

 

29 January 1826

Elizabeth Farndale was baptised in Nunthorpe.

 

13 April 1828

John Henry Farndale was baptised in Stainton, now south western Middlesbrough. John was killed by a fall of ironstone at the Poston Mills, Ormsby, Middlesbrough in 1866, at the age of 37.

 

23 January 1831

Jane Farndale was baptised in Stainton. Jane married Benjamin Darwin in Great Ayton in 1852. They had seven children. One son, Oliver, was a clergyman who emigrated to Canada and lived to be over 100. Jane died in 1869, aged 38.

 

9 February 1834

Robert George Farndale was baptised in Stainton. He married Mary Butterworth in 1862 and moved to Hartlepool. They had seven children. Robert is founder of the Hartlepool 1 Line.

 

By 1841

Henry Farndale was an agricultural labourer in Great Ayton.

 

By 1851

Elizabeth had died and Henry was a widower.

 

27 February 1854

Henry Farndale married Ann Richardson at Great Ayton.

 

3 March 1855

Mary Ann Farndale was baptised at Great Ayton. She married Thomas Hornby or Ralph Graham in 1880 in Stockton.

 

28 December 1857

Henry Farndale died of chronic hepatitis.

 

 

The third generation

 

1871

Mary Ann Farndale was born. She died in 1874.

 

23 May 1872

William Henry Farndale was baptised. He died in 1874.

 

1874

Joseph Farndale was born and probably died at birth.

 

1876

Margaret Ann Farndale was born. She died aged 8, in 1885.

 

2 February 1892

William Farndale was born.  He enlisted into the Yorkshire Regiment in October 1914. He married Agnes Longstaff in 1919. They had four children. He was a cattleman and a horseman on a farm before he became a highways labourer at Wetherby. He died in 1948.

 

 

The fourth generation

 

21 June 1921

Cyril Ernest Farndale was born in Darlington. He served with an anti tank regiment in the Royal Artillery in World War 2. He married Nellie Hiscock in 1949 and they had a daughter, Catherine. He was a postman in Leeds, where he died in 1985.

 

24 December 1922

Kenneth (Ken) Farndale was born in Aycliffe north of Darlington. He married Edna Webster in 1943 and they had two children. Edna died in 1982. Ken married Josephone Robinson in 1988 in Ryedale. He died at Thirkleby in 1992. He is founder of the Wetherby 2 Line.

 

1925

Ethel Doreen Farndale was born in Teesdale. She married Joseph Hall in 1946.

25 April 1932

Ronald Farndale was born in Bedale. He became disabled and was cared for at the Claypenny Colony at Easingwold. He died aged 24 in 1956.
